Minnesota State Fair
September 3, 1999

Another wonderful Bryan White Day at the Minnesota State Fair!! This was his 4th year in a row at Great Minnesota Get Together! This was also his 4th show this year in Minnesota, he must really love us here!

I got to the fair around 2:00 and met my friend Heather and her mom there, my mom was meeting us at the K*102 booth later. We were hoping Donna Valentine would interview Bryan again, but I was sure they wouldn't. K*102 has not been supporting Bryan like they used to. They will not play "You're Still Beautiful To Me", no matter how many times I call in and request it. Every time I talk to Travis Moon he has another excuse why not to play Bryan. He claims that they do play Bryan and I just must be missing it because I can't be listening 24 hours a day. (The sad thing is I am, I always have the radio on, and all I hear are the same "top 40" songs all day!) He told me it did really bad on his Test Toon. (Yeah, it got a 1.98, but "Bad Day to Let You Go" got a 3.88 and they never played that one again either! So that excuse doesn't make any sense.) Travis also says Bryan's songs aren't hits. (Last time I checked he had five number one singles! I don't know how he can tell his new songs won't be hits too without a chance to be heard!). One day I called him and asked if he could please play "You're Still Beautiful to Me" and he flat out told me NO, he wouldn't! How rude! What is the big deal! Just play the song! I really don't think K*102 is going to tick off more listeners than they are going to please if they play a little Bryan White music here and there! I know I'm not the only Bryan fan here! There is something weird going on with K*102 and Bryan. They normally play every other new song that comes out, I don't know why they can't give Bryan's new song a chance too.

We went over to the Bandshell to see the Clark Family Experience. They were really good! Then we went back over to the K*102 booth to wait for my mom. DJ Adam West recognized me, I talk to him last Thursday when we were at the fair. He came over to say hi. I ask him if he knew if Bryan was coming by for an interview, he didn't know. Then Donna came out, I saw some other girls talking to her, I'm sure they wanted to know the same thing I did. I asked Donna if Bryan would be coming by for an interview. She said probably not. There wasn't anything scheduled, but she said he could come by and surprise them. (If I were Bryan I wouldn't come talk to a radio station that refuses to play my new music either.) I asked her if she could at least play one of his songs, she gave me that classic line "I'll see what I can do about that", I never did hear a Bryan song. We hung around the K*102 booth for most of the afternoon. They weren't even advertising the concert. Donna was on the air going on and on about meeting Geno (one of the morning show DJs) at some country night club tonight instead. There is just something really strange going on. Bryan never did come by for an interview, I think K*102 disappointed a lot of fans. Every other person who came to the K*102 booth was asking if Bryan would be coming, which was nice to see because Travis makes me feel like I'm the only Bryan fan around.

My mom finally showed up, and brought me some great news!! I was going to get to meet Bryan again after the show!!! I sent for a Meet & Greet, but didn't think I'd get one because I used mine for the year back in March. But I read in the newsletter that if there was room, they'd let more go. Well, when I hadn't heard back from the fan club on weather I was getting a pass or not, I called them. They told me that I had been put on the list to receive one! (This was Tuesday, why it hadn't been put in the mail yet, I'll never know.) Since the concert was in 4 days she said she could overnight it, but that would cost us $12. I told her just to try regular mail, I was seeing Bryan at the Mall of America the day before anyway, so if I didn't get it, it'd be ok. So she put in the mail Tuesday... and lucky me it arrived in my mail box Friday afternoon!! Just in time!!

Before we knew it was time to head over to the Grandstand for Bryan's concert!! We found our seats, Section G (center section) Row 22. I had the end, I planned on going down the steps to take "a few" pictures. Me and Heather went down by the stage to see if we could find any of the band guys. We saw Scott and Lee up on stage and just said hi. I met my Bryan Internet pal, Mandi. (Nice to finally meet you in person, Mandi!) I had to figure out what to have Bryan sign. I thought he had a new color 8x10 out but they didn't have it. They did have a couple new T-shirts though, I had to have one of those. I got the black one, the front looks like the picture on the back of the new CD and the cities of the 1999 tour are on the back. My mom brought the CD when she came with my Meet & Greet so I was just going to have him sign that.

The show started at 8:00. The Wilkinsons were the opening act. I've seen them three times now, they are just awesome! They played for about 45 minutes. I think Bryan was suppose to start at 9:00 but it look like they were having some "technical difficulties". I could see guys running around on stage with flashlights working on something. Finally they were ready!! (it was about 9:20) Bryan came running out, he was wearing a blue button down shirt with a white T-shirt under it, and those "leather" pants he wore on Leno. They started with "Sittin' On Go", then "Love Is the Right Place" then "Rebecca Lynn". Then they did "The Natural Thing" and then "I'm Not Suppose To Love You Anymore" then "Look At Me Now". Bryan thanked everyone for coming and the Minnesota State Fair for having him back for a 4th year in a row! Then he did a little acoustic set and sang "That's Another Song". He asked if we'd like to sing a duet with him. (stupid question.) We sang "From This Moment On" with him. He said we sounded great and asked if we'd like to come on the road with him, (another stupid question!) He talked about the new album and that he has sold the most albums here in Minnesota! Then I swear he said "You're Still Beautiful To Me" was #5 in the country... I don't know what he was talking about... Maybe he meant the album and it was at #7, but whatever... Then he sang "You're Still Beautiful To Me". That song is so awesome live!! Next he sang "Love Me Like You Mean It" from the new album! Another fun one live! Next he did the band intro and they did "Bad Day To Let You Go". They have so much fun with that one! The crowd just goes nuts for that one! He said goodnight and started to walk off the stage, everyone screamed! He came back to the mic, "just kidding" he told us (very funny Bryan!) He thanked everyone who came out to see he at the Mall of America yesterday. There was a weird silence when he said that, I think a lot of people didn't know about it, K*102 never mentioned it. He sang "Someone Else's Star" and said goodnight and left the stage. I knew he wasn't done yet! He came back out on the drums and did the Prince song "1999" and the intro to of Arrowsmith's "Walk This Way"! They did "Imagine That" and theme song from the Jefferson's, "Movin' On Up" He finished the show with "So Much For Pretending"!

Now it was time for the Meet & Greet. I met my Internet pal Mandi on the way down there and we got in the huge Meet & Greet line. (I've never seen such a huge Meet & Greet line before!) It was set up like last year, he was inside this building that was behind the stage. The line moved slowly but we passed the time chatting with people around us about Bryan and the concert and how much K*102 sucks! It was set up like last year, he was inside this building that was behind the stage. We finally made it in building, Brinson was standing at the entrance taking the cameras. I asked him again if he checked out my web site. He said he hadn't had a chance yet, but would, he "promised!" I asked Brinson when it was my turn with Bryan if he would get in the picture with us, he said sure. When Bryan saw me he goes, "I know you!" It was so cute! (But that totally distracted me from what I was going to say! I was going to ask how his dinner with Gov. Jesse Ventura went yesterday! Oh, well.) I reminded him I'm the one with the web page and showed him the newsletter again. Again he said he'd come see it and then he sign the newsletter (this was my mom's copy, he signed mine yesterday.) I didn't mean for him to sign that, I had the CD cover. He saw I had that and goes, "oh, let me sign that too". Cool, I didn't expect him to do that! Then I got my picture taken with Bryan AND Brinson!! And that was that.

It was almost midnight and the last bus leaves at midnight! We missed the bus by about 5 minutes! This nice guy from MetroTransit gave a ride back to Southdale. He kinda scolded us "when it says the bus leaves at midnight, it leaves at midnight." Okay. we'll remember that =) What a fun day, I hope Bryan comes back next year!!! Pictures are in Photo Album!
