~ Concert Stories ~
Steven's Point, WI
March 13, 1998

Another great Bryan concert! This one was the best Bryan concert so far. The show was in the Quandt Fieldhouse at the University of Wisconsin, Steven's Point. It is about 230 miles away from where I live in Minnesota.

I didn't have to work so I stayed home and got my stuff together. I packed the camera with 5 rolls of 24 exp. film, even though we were told when we got are tickets that cameras were not aloud at the Quandt. I thought that just had to be wrong, how could we not be able to take pictures!?! I was going to get to meet Bryan at the show, I brought my 8x10 picture of me and him that was taken at the 1997 Minnesota State Fair for him to sign. I wanted to give Bryan something when I met him. I decided on giving him 2 Valentino Beanie Babies (one for him and one for Erika). I made these heart shaped sticker type things and stuck them to the backs of the heart swing tags on the Beanies. They said "To Bryan ("To Erika" on the other one) Love Jodie Weckman, Shakopee Minnesota, November 13, 1998". I was trying to come up with something to write on a card for him, I had a 3 hour car ride to think about that.

My mom came home at about 1:30 and we headed for Steven's Point Wisconsin! I spent most of the 3 and a half hour car ride trying to figure out what to write on that card I was going to give Bryan with the Beanie Babies. I didn't want to write a huge letter, just something simple. It did take the entire 3 hours to come up with it, here's what I ended up writing on the card:

We got to Steven's Point at about 5:30 and found our hotel we were staying at for the night. Then we went over to "Rocky Rococo's" for pizza. I met up with two of my Bryan e-mailing buddies, Jeannie and Sarah. Then before I knew it it was time to go find the Quandt the show was starting in about an hour at 7:30. When we got to the Quandt I saw signs all over the doors that said "No Camera's Aloud For This Show". I still didn't believe, it just didn't make sense to me, what would the reason be for not be able to take pictures? We got in side and went to the merchandise table to find out when the Meet & Greet was, it was at 7:15. We went in to the arena, it was very small, it was in the collage gym. I've never been in such a small place for a concert. We found our seat, row 17 on the floor. Jeannie was in row 9 and Sarah had front row! Not fair! We went up by the front row by Sarah. I over heard a security guard talking about cameras and taking pictures. Not only were we aloud to take pictures, you could walk up the center isle and take pictures right up front!! I knew it, there was no way they could keep us from taking pictures.

Now it was time for the Meet & Greet!! My mom had a pass to meet him too. She had the Tour Book for him to sign and I had my 8x10 and the Beanies! We wait what seemed like for ever, but they finally lead the line backstage, where we waited some more. As we were waiting I could hear the Kinleys starting, I was hoping I didn't have to miss them, but oh well!

Then finally Bryan appeared!! Me, Bryan, my mom and 2 Valentino Beanie Babies! When it was my turn I handed him the two Beanies and the card and said one was for him and was was for Erika, he got a real big smile on his face and said "Thanks, hun, Erika's just gonna freak". He signed my picture of me and him at the '97 Minnesota State Fair. Then it was my mom's turn. She had him sign the Tour Book, and them pointed to me and said "that's my daughter, do you mind if she gets in the picture too and I want the beanies in the picture too." He was like sure. So I came back over by him and he handed me one of the beanies and he had the other one. As you can see from the picture he was playing with it by my face. My mom was laughing and patting him on the back telling him to quit it, we were trying to take a picture! When we got our picture, he thanked us for coming and for the Beanie Babies, and our turn with Bryan was over. Now time for the SHOW!!

We headed back to our seats, the Kinleys were still on, so we got to see a little bit of them, they were pretty good. I went up to the front to take a couple pictures, it was really cool, I couldn't wait to go up there when Bryan was on. There were collage kids being the security guard by the stage and they would only allow you to take one picture then you had to go sit down. When the Kinleys were done there was a about a 45 minute break. Bryan's band was up on stage getting set up, I went up to the stage and took some pictures of all the guys, I got a picture of each of them. It was almost time for Bryan to start and the "security kids" were telling us to go back to our seats.

At about 9:00 Bryan came running out, singing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" He was wearing blue jeans and a brown long sleeve shirt, he looked awesome. After "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" he went right in to "Love Is The Right Place" and the "Sittin' On Go". Everyone was standing and it was hard to see, it was the perfect time to go take some pictures. I took an entire roll of 24 in during the first 3 songs! I think the "security kids" were getting a little annoyed with me, but I took my turn, I'd take my one picture (or two) and go back to the end of the line and go threw again, until I used up the roll of film, then I went back to my seat. He slowed it down a little bit and did Rebecca Lynn next, and of course he change the lyrics from "...Rebecca Lynn grew up in Tennessee..." to "...Rebecca Lynn grew up in Wisconsin..." Then he got us going with his "where's the party at" game, then he did "The Natural Thing" and then "I'm Not Suppose to Love You Anymore". After that song he stoped to talk to thanked us for coming to the show and he thanked the Kinleys and said this was the last show on the tour with them. The next song he did was "Look At Me Now". He stoped after that song and was asking the crowd where he was, the name of the building he was in. He thought it was a High School gym, the crowd was quick to tell him it was a collage gym, he told us he was "misinformed" then. He stood back to get a drink of water and the crowd was just going nuts! He stood back and just let us scream for a minute.

He talked about how busy he's been this past year. He was on Tour with LeAnn Rimes and he is working on his fourth album, he said it's the neatest album he's done and said "April..May...June" for the release date. He told us about his new song "Your Still Beautiful To Me" which is going to be on his new album, he said it was a good Valentine's Day song. Then he sang it for us, I love that song more and more each time I hear it. Then he was talking to us some more, and mention how cold it was outside and asked if we were ready for Christmas, and said that he always waits until the last minute to shop for presents, like the night before! Then he looked around and said "Did the band leave? I guess it's just you and me!" He said he gets requests for songs sometimes when he's backstage meeting fans. He said one he's taken out of the show that he gets a lot of requests is "That's Another Song", so he did that one for us. He let us sing on the chorus part, we sounded really cool. Then he was doing bit's and pieces of a bunch of song, he was just being really goofy. He did "Blindhearted" and then he stared to sing "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer..." but stoped, it was really funny! Then he talk about a song called "Your Gone" he did with Lila McCann, Steve Wariner and Vince Gill. He said it was his favorite song that he got to be part of. He sang us a song called "When Am I Gonna Get Over You". He co-wrote it with John Tirro, it's on LeAnn Rimes' new album. He was just up there talking away and doing pieces of different songs, he was like "tell me when you get board with this, I don't know what I'm doing" I've never seen him interact with the crowd the way he did at this show. He sang us the Sawyer Brown song, "I Don't believe In Goodbye's", that he co-wrote with Scott Emerick. He talked about how much he appreciates us, the fans coming to see him every night. He talked about his trip to Japan and how country music is really popular over there. He said he learned how to make sushi which kinda grossed him out. he got back to singing, he sang us the Bryan Adams song "Every Thing I Do, I Do It For You", I love that song. He started to sing "From This Moment On" and we sang Shania's parts, we sounded awesome, Bryan even said we were had the best voices. He kept forgetting the words, I think we knew it better than he did. The band came back out and Joe played us this awesome drum solo. Then Bryan when in to his "repeat after me" game, and we echoed what ever he sang that was fun. Then sang "Bad Day To Let You Go". That is such a cool song, I can't believe it didn't do better on the radio.

I was up front again taking pictures, by now I was on my third roll! Danielle hold the mic for Bryan while he sings Tree of Hearts! There was this girl with a flower and she went up to the stage to give it to Bryan. Bryan came to the edge of the stage and took it from her and asked her what her name was, she said Danielle. Bryan goes "that's what I used to call my brother". He asked if she was enjoying the show and she said yes. He asked her if she heard all the songs she wanted to hear, she said no. Bryan asked what her what did she want to hear, and she said "Tree of Hearts". Bryan goes, "Well, I guess we're gonna have to play this girl "Tree of Hearts". He went to go get his guitar and then came back and sat on the edge of the stage and asked Danielle to come sit next to him and hold the mic while he sang!! I couldn't believe he did that, that was so sweet.

Next he got us up and moving again with his "where are all the young people at!" we all screamed, then he asked "how 'bout those who feel young!", more screams. Then he gave us his stay in school and follow your dreams speech, he said he was proof that if you work at it you dreams will come true. Then he sang "Someone Else's Star" Then the lights when out after that song and he left, but I knew he wasn't done yet.

I was up front again, now on my fourth roll of film. The "security kids" all left after the lights went out, I knew Bryan was coming back so I stayed right where I was! The crowd kept on screaming, and the came back out. Then Bryan appeared on the drums, he's an awesome drummer, he played quite the solo. Then he went into the song he and Derek wrote, "Imagine That". He introduced us all to the guys in the band. Then he had us doing the echoing thing again and then he did parts of the Jefferson's theme song "Moven' On Up" and "Shout". Then he got back into "Imagine That". He got us all up our feet and got us moving. He had us clapping and waving our arms around and jumping up and down, he's so much fun. Then he did his last song of the night "So Much For Pretending" He put on such an awesome show. This was definitely the best Bryan White concert!! The way he talked to the crowd so much was great, and being able to go right up front to take pictures was to cool! Especially at the end, I was like in front row for once! I got a lot of great pictures, you can find then on my Photo Album page.
