You Can't Go Back
Written By: Marcus Hummon, John Tirro & Bryan White
First chance I had to hit the road
I was sixteen goin’ on a hundred years old
Twenty five dollars, a pilgrim soul, a guitar and a dream
There were cornfields, tobacco-black barns
A little girl runnin’ ‘cross her daddy’s farm
Had a sunburn on my left arm and my right hand on the wheel
Yes I called my mom and daddy when I got my first show
Said I’m on my way, I heard my mama choke back the tears
For all the years that came floodin’ to the surface
You can’t go back when you’ve left home
I’ve tried but now I’m on my own
I got my heart broken, my guitar stolen
Went back to mom and daddy and the door was open
I lay in bed, yes my very own bed
Just dreamin’ of what someone in Oklahoma said,
“Don’t give up, don’t give in!”
“Don’t look back and don’t let the dream end!”
Got a new guitar, filled my eyes with new stars
And set out the next day
Yes I'm on my own...
